Jon Ratcliffe - Head Director Mr. Ratcliffe is in his second year as the director of the Mainland Regional High School Marching Mustangs. During the day, Mr. Ratcliffe works for Atlantic City Public Schools where he teaches 4-8 Instrumental Music. Previously, Mr. Ratcliffe was the Brass/Visual Instructor at Egg Harbor Township High School and Williamstown High School. As a marching band staff member, he helped lead Williamstown to the USBands 2A New Jersey State Championship and 2nd place at USBands National Championships. Mr. Ratcliffe has also served as the band manager for the 2018 SJBODA Junior High Honors Band. Mr. Ratcliffe is an active member of NAfME and NJMEA as well as being a member of the music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Mr. Ratcliffe is a 2018 graduate of Rowan University and holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. In his time at Rowan, Mr. Ratcliffe was the Bass Trombonist for the Rowan University Wind Ensemble for four years, Rowan University Orchestra for one year, Rowan University Pep Band for two years, and the Rowan University Brass Band for 2 years. Mr. Ratcliffe currently plays trombone with the wedding band JEM and The Vibe and formerly as a member of the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble. Mr. Ratcliffe is a 2014 graduate of Washington Township High School, where he played in the Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pit Orchestra, and was the Bass Trombonist of the All-South Jersey Wind Ensemble for 3 years.
When not on the marching band field, Mr. Ratcliffe enjoys running and exercising and is an avid racing and sports fan. Go Birds!
Carlye Waniak - Assistant Director Miss Waniak is a music teacher in the South Jersey area, currently starting her 8th year of teaching of music to various grades between Kindergarten and 8th grade. She recently joined the Pleasantville Public Schools District as a music teacher and currently is on her 3rd year being the assistant marching band director. In previous years she has worked as a music teacher in Trenton, and Somers Point, NJ. In addition to this, she is also a private clarinet/ saxophone teacher in the area and currently teaches out of Music Studio in Linwood. In previous years Miss Waniak also has worked as a Musical Director and Assistant Director for Somers Point’s annual Summer Musical Productions, just finishing this year's production of Frozen Jr. in August.
Miss Waniak graduated from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) with a Bachelors in Music Education and served as the principle clarinetist for the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Woodwind Quintet, and musical pit orchestra. She has performed at Princeton University, Temple University, Boston College, and The Kennedy Center. She performs for local performances around the area, including The Margate Players, and is a member of the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble where she plays clarinet and bass clarinet.
In her spare time, she enjoys practicing yoga, exercising, kayaking, camping, bowling, and Salsa dancing (her favorite). She is very excited to be on staff with the marching band for another year and looks forward to working with all the wonderful staff and students!
