Marc Spatz - Director Mr. Spatz has been working with Mainland's Marching Band since 2012. He has previously served as Assistant Director, Percussion Instructor, and Marching Instructor. He graduated from West Chester University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Music Education with a concentration in percussion. While at West Chester, Mr. Spatz performed with various jazz combos, the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and the Incomparable Golden Rams Marching Band (both in the drumline and in the front ensemble). He has taught general music, choir, and band in Absecon and North Wildwood. Mr. Spatz currently teaches instrumental music in Atlantic City Public Schools, where he built his school's band program from the ground up. He also performs with the Philadelphia Wind Symphony, the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble, and as a pit musician in local theater productions.
Mr. Spatz enjoys the beach, kayaking, technology, Virginia Tech football, and Philly sports...except the Sixers.
Amy Melson - Assistant Director Ms. Melson has been on staff with the MRHS Marching Band as Assistant Director since 2015. Ms. Melson is currently the Choir Director at Mainland Regional HS. She also teaches AP Music Theory, Keyboard 1-4 and Guitar 1. In addition she is the Vocal Music Director for the Spring Musical and Advisor for the Tri-M Music Honors Society at Mainland Regional High School.
Ms. Melson graduated from Woodstown High School where she was actively involved in the choir and band programs including being Assistant Drum Major for the Marching Band. She has played flute for 10 years. After graduating Woodstown, she went to Messiah College for a degree in Music Education with a concentration in voice. After graduating, she came to Mainland in November 2014 as a Long Term Substitute for the 2014-2015 school year. She has been a full-time teacher at Mainland since June 2015.
Carlye Waniak - Assistant Director Miss Waniak, a graduate of Mainland, works for the Somers Point Public Schools District as a music teacher at Dawes Avenue Elementary School. There she teaches elementary general music and is a coordinator for the schools annual Integrated Arts Festival and Showcase. She also works for the Somers Point Community and Education Recreation Office as both a Camp Director for the Summer Day Camp program, and as the Musical Director for the SP summer musicals. In addition to this, she is also a private clarinet/ saxophone teacher in the area and currently teaches out of Music Studio in Linwood.
While a high school student at Mainland, Miss Waniak was involved with the Marching band, and served as Drum Major her senior year. She also performed with the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band, as well as the Jazz prep band, and clarinet choir. Miss Waniak graduated from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) with a Bachelors in Music Education and served as the principle clarinetist for the Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Woodwind Quintet, and musical pit orchestra. She has performed at Princeton University, Temple University, Boston College, and The Kennedy Center. She performs for local performances around the area, including The Margate Player, and is a member of the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble.
In her spare time, she enjoys practicing yoga and exercise, kayaking, camping, bowling, and Salsa dancing. She is very excited to be on staff with the marching band this year and looks forward to working with everyone!

Alan Kinsey - Percussion Tech and Arranger Alan Kinsey has established himself as a teacher/educator of all styles of percussion, and is demand as a clinician, teacher, and adjudicator.
He has an in-depth and varied career in drumline performance both indoor and outdoor, and has award winning ensembles to his credit, both locally and on a national basis. His groups have captured high drums and high percussion awards in Cavalcade of Bands, TIA, Rocky Mountain Percussion Society, and DCI. A native of Souderton PA, Alan completed Undergraduate, and Master’s Degree, both in Percussion Performance (a double degree program, based in Classical and Jazz) at Temple University, in Philadelphia PA.
Mr Kinsey holds a DA in Percussion Performance, and Jazz Administration from the University of Northern Colorado.
He also holds a K-12 Music teaching certification in New Jersey. Although semi retired from education, Alan is currently teaching elementary instrumental music in the Gloucester Township and is a faculty music adviser to the Egg Harbor Township and Lacey districts. He is also the Assistant Director/Percussion Coordinator of Jackson Liberty’s Marching Band in NJ.
Alan is active, as an adjudicator, for the Cavalcade of Bands, BOA, USSBA, and the Music in the Parks associations. He is also active in the Percussive Arts Society, Jazz Educator’s Network, New Jersey Music Educator’s Association, and the Technology Institute for Music Educators.

Zach Maccini - Drumline Tech Zach Maccini spent 3 years in the Mainland Marching Band and now serves as a drum tech. He is attending New Jersey City University for a degree in Music Education with a concentration in percussion. Zach also performs with the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble.
Zach enjoys all things drums, audio engineering, and physical fitness.
